In early Spring of 2017 the Cambridge West Apartments contracted Kansas City’s Repaint Specialists, Major Painting, to revive its center. The center was last painted over 15 years ago and was in need of a protective coating for its stucco elevations as well as repairs to the many areas of damaged stucco throughout the complex.
Location: Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City-Kansas
Building Type: Multi-family Apartment Complex
Problem: Existing Stucco elevations were very weathered, cracked stucco in miscellaneous areas, and missing patches of stucco
Solution: Major Painting worked with PPG Paints on this project to provide the owner of the facility a 5-year product warranty through PPG paints and a 2 year labor warranty. The scope of work entailed pressure washing all elevations with a diluted bleach solution to remove all loose paint, dirt, mildew, and loose stucco. Areas with missing stucco were patched, areas with little to no paint were spot primed, and one liberal coat of PPG’s High Build Acrylic Permacrete was applied to all stucco elevations
Logistics: With a fully occupied complex the challenge was to work around the day to day traffic of the tenants and working with property manager to schedule times with the tenants to perform the needed work to the balconies.
Material and Equipment: 25 gallons of PPG Permacrete Primer was applied along with over 200 gallons of PPG Permacrete High Build Acrylic Primer. A 45’ stick boom and 30’ scissor lift was used to execute the job.
Conclusion: The project was completed in a span of 4 weeks with very little disturbance to the facilities tenants. The fresh coat of PPG Permacrete not only gave this property the pop it was looking for, but will protect it for the years to come.
